How Arabs Eat

Have you ever seen an Arab eating rice ... ofcourse u haven't ...

Having worked among Arabs Egyptians, Saudis, Yemenis, Palestinians etc. for almost a year now i have gone for lunch with them many a times ... and i found their way of eating, rice in particular, very strange .. we all know its according to the Sunnah to eat with your right hand and there is one Hadith which says to eat in small bites, if i am not wrong ..

They are ok with the first part but small bites ... no ... either i am wrong or they havent heard of this Hadith ... they dont eat using their fingers .. they use the whole palm of their hand... what we eat in three bites .. is one bite for them ... and the strangest thing is , its common in all Arabs

I went out with a Saudi guy, he had studied in London and spoke English fluently, which is very rare here, and he dressed nicely and evrything ... but when he started eating.. it was like he is eating for the last time .. i mean .. it was totally barbaric ...

  8. Actually the way the Arabs eat is the way of the Sunnah. Indians and Pakistanis are heavily influenced by Persian culture and etiquettes. In a sense we practice Persian etiquette of eating while following Islamic values.

Small bites is a relative term depending on the culture. Also the translation of bite in Arabic to Urdu or English can mean separate things. Saudi Arabs often refer bites as both our version of bites and also portions of a plate.
My South Indian Hyderabadi Muslims eat exactly like Arabs. You can tell that they had little or no Persian ancestry and are more Arab than North Indian and Pakistani Muslims.

Just say Bismillah and eat your food. Islam is now spreading in Korea and Japan. Korean and Japanese Muslims are discussing about the Sunnah
    and eating with chop sticks.

Apparently Chinese Muslims have standards of proper way of eating with chop sticks. Like we have a Sunnah of not blowing on utensils, so the Chinese Muslims have the same standard for chopsticks.

Indian and Pakistani and to an extent even Persian food is full of spices and it be fully appreciated when eaten in smaller portion.

Arab food has less spices and more herbs. In Ancient Arab culture, a guest burping after a meal is considered a compliment by the host.

As a result each culture will interpret Islamic values with the extent taught by their ancestors and also blend their own cultural values.

Let's appreciate all cultures. Arabs are number one in hospitality and no European can challenge them. In fact I find European way of eating barbaric.

The fork and knife were invented because Europeans didn't wash their hands.
